Texture-tastic diagrams (Jun 15, 2006)
I was looking for some textures earlier today, and came across a few of the original files I used when creating Sienna. Creating textures sounds like witchcraft sometimes, so I've put together a massively-oversized diagram showing how I put some of them together and the bits that went into their making.
It's only really this size so I can show off my amazingly beautiful, hand-crafted textures in their original-size glory, since in-game (HL1 engine remember) they were reduced to a paltry 50% and made me cry like a girl... but then again it's really very noisy, so the reduction actually made them look better.

Nice, simple but effective.

Looks Crap in HL1, but the textures themselves are deffently good.
Id actually like to see some more texturing stuff by you, its just nice to see. :P

Thanks for the breakdown on how you create your own textures. No matter how hard I try, I always end up making my textures look like crap.
Thanks again :).

Everything's like 3 times as much work in HL2/Source because of the higher detail. In case of textures it's the large resolutions, shaders ect. :/

Slightly off topic, but Sienna is a map that I have mixed feelings towards. I really, really loved the theme, and the general feel of it. Is also a lot of fun to play as a CT.
Part I don't like about it is how the T's seem to have a very tough time, and often have to resort to spawn camping. I am certain that a few changes could make it a truly great map. Just wondered if you had any plans to revisit Sienna for Source, or if there is a remake planned by Valve.

Impressive. I have also tried my hand at texture making but I found it very difficult to make textures for a bulding compaired to say painting one or doing a pencil drawing. Mine came out very cartoon like. Bright, simple, and clean. This inspired me to open up photoshop and try again. Thanks.
